Franschhoek SUDS Demonstration Facility
As part of the Berg River Improvement initiative, this project, funded by the Western Cape Government, will see the development of a new research facility to test and demonstrate sustainable drainage and ecological water treatment systems capable of treating polluted stormwater within the South African context. Isidima is leading the technical design of the facility. The photograph above is the existing Franschhoek Wastewater Treatment Works that will be transformed component by component to Sustainable Urban Drainage technologies. Visitors to the site will be able to walk the 'story of water' route from source to treatment, and view the various SuDS technologies in action along the way. Phase 2 the project will see a conference venue and learning centre take shape right on the spot this photograph was taken.
